George Stalter Remembered
by David Baker

George Stalter

MMS Aviation marked the end of an era when longtime MMS board member and volunteer George Stalter went home to be with his Lord on August 2, 2007. Always the humble servant, “Brother George” as he was known at MMS, leaves a legacy of selfless service and generosity.

Upon his retirement from American Electric Power in 1987, George pledged to volunteer at least forty hours per week serving the Lord. He faithfully honored this commitment for twenty years until slowed by terminal illness in spring 2007. Putting his considerable mechanical and electrical skills to excellent use, George tirelessly participated in three major expansions at MMS including: construction of the administrative wing in 1987, Hangar B in 2000, and the recently completed Hangar C. Between expansion campaigns, George spent significant time maintaining MMS facilities and equipment as well as assisting our affiliated missionary families. An active board member for nineteen years, George provided leadership as chairman of the board, treasurer, and as a major donor.

In addition to supporting MMS, George became a fixture in the community serving many churches and nonprofit humanitarian organizations including Grace United Methodist Church, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, First Step Family Violence Center, Salvation Army, Hospice, Echoing Hills, New Life Ministries, Boy Scouts, and Christian missions both domestic and foreign. His fingerprints can be seen throughout the community not only on the buildings and equipment he helped build and maintain, but also on the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Recognizing George and his wife Pauline’s dedication to MMS and the community, the Schooler Family Foundation made a major gift toward the Hangar C expansion in their honor. Additional memorial gifts recognizing the Stalters are welcome and will support the important ongoing work of MMS in preparing people and planes for worldwide mission service.

David Baker is a former MMS board member and a close friend of George and Pauline Stalter.
